Shadow

Shadow refers to what we reject in ourselves—anger, neediness, ambition, sexuality, prejudice—and project onto others.

Bright insight can coexist with unconscious cruelty, seduction, or self-neglect. Without shadow work, realization may inflate the persona rather than transform character.

  • Repeated irritation at the same trait in others
  • “Spiritual” language during manipulation
  • Sudden attraction to idealized teachers
  • Emotions that “should not” arise for an awakened person
  • Honest journaling and feedback from grounded friends
  • Therapy or facilitated shadow inquiry
  • Embodiment and affect tolerance
  • Owning impact without metaphysical excuses

Ask: What do I condemn publicly that I secretly enact privately?

Stay with the discomfort long enough to learn, not long enough to shame yourself into hiding.
